Just now during NDP (Happy Birthday Singapore!) they released some red heart shaped balloons and I was reminded of Just Jack's park performance of The Day I Died where he added a verse about 99 red ballons at the end. I didn't realise there was a song called 99 Red Balloons until I came across it in a blog. The blogger was listing songs from the 80's and when I saw the title I wondered if there's a connection.

I had just returned to my desk and plugged in and heard the dj talking about how this person's song is so popular and that it was both uplifting and depressing, and I suspected if he was talking about his song, and it was! It's in the podcast and I of course have downloaded it already. =)

Found a video of an acoustic live performance of Starz in Their Eyes. I wonder if the back-up singer pronounces "Saturday" that way because he does so or because that's how she pronounces it as well. =)
I hadn't watched the official video for The Day I Died yesterday because the video was taking forever to load. I read the comments commending it so was a little disappointed when I watched it. I guess it wouldn't be impressive if it just followed the lyrics exactly. I did like the part where he was supposedly hit by the taxi. What's the word to describe it? Surreal? Artistic? I think the "top of the world" bit wasn't particularly clever though. Ha.. Still, nice artwork.
Heard this song on BBC Radio 1 and LOVED it. Didn't find an official video of it on youtube. Here's one of a recording in a park. Me loves cello. =) Have to up the volume to listen to it though.
Apparently several people in the comments also heard the song from radio 1. Is it not being played anywhere else? When I first heard it I just keep hearing "The day I died was the best day of my life.." and I wondered if he was having a great day or dying was the best thing that happened to him. I did catch the fact that he got hit by a taxi. Checked out the lyrics and it is the first scenario. I just don't like the fact that he bought cigarettes. It just makes me think that he deserved that taxi.

While searching for this song I came across another of his song. I like this song a lot too but I had no idea who sang it. I like the middle-to-end part where he sounds a bit like how you would sound talking behind a fan. Used to do that when I was a kid. Good times. Ha.. And I watched this before watching the above one. He looks better in this one. =P I love how he pronounces "Saturday". XD Might be starting to have a thing for English accents.
